Behind the Lens: Cyberpunk 2077 Aldecaldo Nomad - Sepra Photography
Alex from Sepra Photography shot two different cosplays of mine in the same weekend.
Welcome to Behind the Lens - where I tell the story of the photoshoots that I collaborate with photographers on - in this edition we look at the shoot of my Cyberpunk Aldecaldo Nomad cosplay I did with Alex - Sepra Photography.
Anime Magic was a busy weekend. You can find the full recap of things I did here and all the interviews I conducted here. I also did two cosplay shoots with Alex - Sepra Photography. You can read about the Red Hood cosplay shoot here.
Behind the Lens: Sepra Photography Shoots Cyberpunk Nomad
The Cosplay
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of my favorite role-playing video games. I have played it across the Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The Nomad live path and Aldecalo ending with Panam is by far my favorite way to play the game and the story has always stuck with me. This costume was really fun to put together and had a lot of creative aspects to it. You can read all about the inspiration and creation of the costume here.
The Photographer
I decided to get this shot at Anime Magic since the timing didn’t work out for Fan Expo Chicago (see the above article for more info on that). I joined a couple of Facebook and Discord groups for the convention and found Alex on the pages. We connected and booked the shoot for the weekend. Alex shot my Red Hood the evening after we knocked out this shoot (poor Alex had to put up with me twice at the same con).
The Setting
Nightcity is a futuristic city with plenty of bright lights and technology rampant. It is a massive city with constant movement and traffic. With the convention center and many surrounding highways, hotels, garages, and office buildings, we were able to recreate Night City in Rosemont.
We met out front of the convention center and ventured out to the highway underpass, and office building parking garages to grab these shots. The editing really added to the futuristic dystopian feel that has become synonymous with the 2077 version of Night City.
The Results
I really enjoyed exploring the aspect of shooting with Alex. It is a good mix of location scouting while still having the flexibility to explore the surrounding areas. We got some great shots that capture the intensity of the plotline of Cyberpunk 2077. The shots really look like a Night City Mercenary in the middle of a job. Some look like eavesdropping to get intel while others look like they were pulled from a shootout (maybe the intel wasn’t too good for that job?). The vest that I put together was highlighted really well and Alex made it look like a great centerpiece in these photos.
